Oliseh helps Dutch club Sittard avoid relegation
Former Super Eagles manager Sunday Oliseh who was appointed coach of
Dutch second division club Fortuna Sittard on an 18-month contract in
December, has helped the club avoid relegation as the season ends.
Oliseh joined the club in mid-season when they had only grabbed 19
points from 15 matches and were at the relegation zone of 18 on the log.
But the ex-Super Eagles captain, who led the club to finish 17th after
the Dutch FA deducted nine points from them, has hailed the players of
Fortuna Sittard for ending the season on a high following their 3-0 home
win on Friday against Volendam.
Goals from Jorrit Smeets (on 33 minutes), Ferry De Regt (on 4 minutes)
and Roald van Hout (at the stroke of full time) sealed the convincing
win for Oliseh’s club.
On his official Twitter handle, Oliseh congratulated his players and fans for finishing the season in the best possible way.
“What a phenomenal way to end the season! 3-0 victory over top five and
playoff favourites Volendam. Congrats to my players, fans and club
Fortuna Sittard,” Oliseh wrote on Twitter.
Sittard finished on 39 points in the 20-team Dutch second division
league championship, and have escaped relegation from the second-tier.
